Chattar Manzil Or Umbrella Palace is a building which served as a palace for Nawabs and their wives of Lucknow. Chattar Manzil situated on the banks of Rover Gomti near Qaiserbagh and Hazratganj. Its Mughal architecture design is very eye pleasing even nowadays when it becomes a ruined structure. It was constructed by order of Nawab Ghaziuddin Haider and completed after his death by his successor, Nawab Nadiruddin Haider. The Chattar Manzil consisted of a Bari (larger) Chattar Manzil and Chhoti (smaller) Chattar Manzil, however only the larger one still exists. The Palace has gone through many owners including the Nawabs of Awadh Saadat Ali Khan and Wajid Ali Shah, and the Britishers and changes since its construction was started in the 1780s. It's not a very great sight to go to but if you have enough time in lucknow you can visit.

One of the most awe inspiring and majestic monument of Lucknow, which houses twin monuments - Farhat Baksh and Chattar Manzil. A part of ASI's list of protected monument, it was delisted in 1960s resulting in its ruin and plunder. The CDRI which was housed in this monument played havoc with its architecture and spoilt the interiors. Declared a protected monument again in 2013 by the State Archaeology, this monument is now under repairs and renovation. Hope that the restored monument is put to public viewing soon, making us proud of our magnificent heritage.

The Palace was used as the Nawabi residcence until Nawab Wajid Ali Shah shifted bases to Qaiserbagh. Overlooking the banks of River Gomti, the architecture of the palace is the definition of acculturation and the Palace design is an amalgamation of Indo- European and Nawabi constructions.

Neglected heritage A beautiful Awadhi style building used by the Nawab of Awadh as his residence. Adjoining this place is another kothi which was owned by a French general Martin Cloud, later purchased by the Nawab. It has excellent French architecture. Both the buildings are in sheer neglect. High time to start protecting our heritage before it goes !

It's a quite good place. Silence around, but not too many people here to see this historical marvel. Infact it remain closed all the time and as a tourist you cannot enjoy the historical building. We couldn't enter inside but enjoyed the view from outside. I would suggest tourist to visit it in short period of time. It is opposite Lucknow court.
